After a leisurely breakfast, we booked the hotel beach shuttle to transport us to their private beachfront...
...the waiting area for the beach shuttle |
looking back on into the courtyard... |
our shuttles arrives... |
..."All aboard!" |
Once at the beach, Mundain, true to his word, made himself busy
DOING NOTHING...
while, an old Lovin' Spoonful tune kept creeping into my head...
"What a day for a daydream,
custom made for a daydreaming boy..."
so I began creating shadow self portraits |
...it was peaceful... |
...let's lay back and do NOTHING |
...but lounge on the beach |
...watching the waves roll in...just like Otis sang |
...and contemplating clouds like Joni did... |
..."bows and flows of angel hair
and ice cream castles in the air"... |
...strolling the sandy beach imagining like John...
fantasizing that I'm Robinson of Dafoe's Crusoe |
...warily observing local, modern headhunters stalking prey... |
...and beach vendors balancing their wares |
...whose persistence chased us off the beach...
END DAYDREAM! |
...so it was back to our safe haven |
...for a quick and healthy snack |
...which I embrassingly enjoyed |
hey, at least it wasn't prepared by the Colonel from Kentucky |
After freshening up, we toured the neighborhood with the intent of working off a few guilty calories and to whet our appetites for dinner at Warung Made's later in the evening
like the rest of SE Asia, old and new stand side by side,
as do traditional and modern, and sadly poor and rich |
... we pass locals eking out a living on the street |
...and pangs of guilt are intermingled with those of hunger,
as we are seated for dinner at Warung Made's |
...off to a great start with ice cold lemon squashes |
...so cooling and thirst quenching on a hot, humid evening |
...tried the Nasi Campur just to compare against
last night's meal of the same at Cafe Seminyak |
...it was a mistake |
...maybe we'd have better luck with the Gadu salad |
...the presentation was not as nice as at the Seminyak Cafe... |
...and neither was the taste...
well, you can't win 'em all |
I confess, we were quite disappointed with the food,
but the Balinese dancing more than made up for it |
...the dances were hypnotizing, alternating between
slow and graceful and quick and intense movements,
with exquisite control of the body and
unique hand, facial, and eye control |
Mundain got a little "cultured up"
...a wonderful way to end an evening |
