Bali - Another Day in Paradise

Have you ever had one of those days when everything is perfect?

We wanted to extend our stay at The Haven but were unable so we moved to the Semera Resort & Spa, located in a quieter part of Seminyak...

...and were met with iced drinks and
cold towels that on a hot day, were oh so soothing...

refreshingly unusual with grated ginger and mint
...but absolutely delicious

we couldn't help congratulating ourselves
on Mrs. Mundain's fine choice of accommodation...

I put the room through a "test drive"
by flopping on the couch...

and checking out the bed...

...snoozing on the patio off the pool

...hey, I wonder how I'm gonna pay for this?

...what the heck! We're on vacation...

...lovin' the thick, fluffy towels

and the his 'n hers sinks, side by each

Mundain spared no expense for the Mrs...
The Semara confirmed my earlier conclusion:

                                                      Five Stars > Backpackers

Next, it was off to the beach...

watching kids play...

a stream flowing...

Mundain was in a contemplative mood...

oblivious to the crashing waves...

barely noticing riders approaching on horseback...

even as they galloped by...

nothing could distract me from my meditation...

...nothing

...almost nothing

...suddenly a voice broke my Mittyesque trance
and abruptly jolted me back to reality...
"time to go back to the hotel"

well, it was almost time for dinner anyhow...

...from that point, I got the feeling I was being closely watched
Earlier in the day, we discovered Warung Bonita and made dinner reservations for that evening...it was an excellent choice and we experienced the finest meal of our entire Indonesia stay...

...beginning with my now usual lemon or lime squash

...the lime squash and mango juice
collide in a celebratory toast

...followed by an outstanding tart and sweet mango salad

...while our eyes feasted on the same

...our palates anticipated; we were not disappointed

the setting was romantic, gorgeous and lush
...we were joined by an uninvited but welcomed guest

Satay Chicken with fresh veggie garnish,
nasi topped with dried anchovies
accompanied by peanut and sesame based dipping sauce

Satay Chicken...bite sized chunks of chicken on skewers, grilled to
perfection, marinated and basted with a secret sauce

Beef Rendang...chunks of caramelized beef, slow cooked and reduced,
infused with spices...every bite reveals more of the depth of
this dish as new flavors are released the more one chews

served with garlic stir fried local greens and anchovies garnishing the
coconut rice, photos cannot do this superb Beef Rendang justice...

what better way to end a fine meal than with a fine dessert

Banana Fritters a la mode, a visual treat...

...hot and sweet bananas encased in a light crunchy batter
paired with vanilla ice cream...hot, cold, sweet, savoury and superb

What a way to celebrate the perfect day!
